Vodianka Penal Colony (No. 146)

The state institution ‘Vodianka Penal Colony (No. 146)’ is a penal institution of the State Penitentiary Service of Ukraine, located in the village of Vodiane, Kryvyi Rih district, Dnipropetrovsk region.

Today, the institution functions as a penal colony and ensures the execution of sentences in accordance with the requirements of the penal enforcement legislation of Ukraine.

The history of the modern institution is connected with the development of a network of correctional centres in the Dnipropetrovsk region. For a long time, the Shyroke Correctional Centre No. 75 functioned in this territory — an open-type penal institution designated for the execution of sentences in the form of restriction of liberty and ensuring the resocialisation of convicts by involving them in labour and socio-educational work. In the process of reforming the penitentiary system of Ukraine and taking into account the needs of the penal enforcement service, a decision was made to change the profile of the institution. In 2022, the Shyroke Correctional Centre No. 75 was repurposed and renamed the state institution ‘Vodianka Penal Colony (No. 146)’.

Relevant changes were made to state registers, and the institution began functioning as a penal colony. The institution is located in the Kryvyi Rih district of the Dnipropetrovsk region and has a developed production and economic infrastructure.

Traditionally, one of the important directions of the institution’s activity is the involvement of convicts in socially useful labour, professional training, and measures aimed at their resocialisation and preparation for returning to society.

Today, the state institution ‘Vodianka Penal Colony (No. 146)’ continues to perform the tasks assigned to it by the state regarding ensuring the regime of serving sentences, the observance of the rights of convicts, the organisation of labour, and the conduct of socio-educational work in accordance with the requirements of the legislation of Ukraine.
