Veselivskyi Correctional Centre (No. 8)
The State Institution “Veselivskyi Correctional Centre (No. 8)” was part of the structure of the State Criminal-Executive Service of Ukraine and ensured the enforcement of sentences in the form of restriction of liberty in accordance with the requirements of the criminal-executive legislation of Ukraine.
The institution was located in the territory of the Zaporizhzhia region and belonged to the network of open-type criminal-executive institutions.
The main tasks of the correctional centre were to ensure proper conditions for serving sentences, the organisation of the labour of convicts, the conduct of social and educational work, and the promotion of their resocialisation.
Following the start of the full-scale armed aggression by the Russian Federation against Ukraine and the occupation of part of the territory of the Zaporizhzhia region in 2022, Ukraine lost actual control over the territory on which the State Institution “Veselivskyi Correctional Centre (No. 8)” is located.
In connection with the temporary occupation, the state authorities of Ukraine are deprived of the opportunity to manage the institution, control the state of its property complex, and obtain reliable information regarding the current status of the facilities, personnel support, and the possible use of the institution.
Thus, the State Institution “Veselivskyi Correctional Centre (No. 8)” belongs to the institutions of the State Criminal-Executive Service of Ukraine that, after 24 February 2022, found themselves in the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine.
In accordance with the Constitution of Ukraine and the Law of Ukraine “On Ensuring the Rights and Freedoms of Citizens and the Legal Regime on the Temporarily Occupied Territory of Ukraine”, the territory on which the correctional centre is located is an inalienable part of Ukraine, and state property located in the temporarily occupied territory remains the property of Ukraine regardless of actual control over it.
