Excursions to the SIZO
According to the head of the Kherson SIZO, E. Chaika, on average, there are usually 70–80 arrested teenagers in the SIZO. This year – (touch wood) – there are half as many. Therefore, it has become possible to ‘free up’ some of the premises and carry out major repairs there. One cell is already completely ready; in the second, repairs are ‘in full swing’. And furthermore, he has been to many institutions in Ukraine, and there is nowhere else like this.
In the corridor of the building where minors are held, journalists encountered a crowd of boys and girls. The teenagers not only walked along the corridor and looked at the library and the psychological relaxation room, but were also able to ‘peek’ at how their peers were ‘gnawing on the granite of science’ in the classroom and how they live in the cells.
It turned out that these were children from a boarding school who are prone to violating public order and the law. And this excursion, for the first time in all these years, was organised by officers of the criminal militia for children’s affairs of the UMVD of Ukraine in the Kherson Region, the boarding school directorate, and the SIZO management. As they explained – to keep them from being drawn here. And as a rule, this works.
