On the initiative of the UHHRU, the Ministry of Justice will develop a bill to increase the number of parcels and letters for convicts and prisoners
The Ukrainian Helsinki Human Rights Union appealed to the subjects of legislative initiative with a request to develop and submit a draft law that would protect the right of prisoners to receive parcels and packages without restrictions. On 25 February, the UHHRU received a letter from the Ministry of Justice of Ukraine.
The letter, in particular, states: “...Taking into account the financial and economic situation in the state and the deterioration of the conditions for serving sentences by convicts and the detention of persons taken into custody against this background, the Ministry of Justice is initiating the issue of developing a draft law regarding increasing the number of parcels and letters for convicts and prisoners”.
