Five years for an attempted escape

The press service of the State Department of Ukraine for the Execution of Sentences reported on an attempted escape by convicts from the Iziaslav Penal Colony (No. 31) of the State Department's administration in the Khmelnytskyi region on 15 August 2009. As noted, the head of the guard detected a 10-metre tunnel that convicts F. and S. were preparing to facilitate an escape from custody.

During the investigation, it was discovered that besides the aforementioned convicts, others were also involved in the tunnel construction.

All those involved in the attempted escape were sentenced on 2 March 2010 by the Iziaslav District Court of the Khmelnytskyi region to criminal liability for signs of a crime provided for by Articles 15 part 2, and 393 part 2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. Namely, the convicts of the Iziaslav Penal Colony (No. 31):

F. — to 5 years and 3 months of imprisonment; on the basis of Article 71 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, the final sentence to be served is 7 years and 4 months of imprisonment;

S. — to 5 years and 2 months of imprisonment; on the basis of Article 71 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, the final sentence to be served is 7 years and 3 months of imprisonment;

Ye. — to 5 years of imprisonment; on the basis of Article 71 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, the final sentence to be served is 7 years of imprisonment;

B. — to 5 years of imprisonment; on the basis of Article 71 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, the final sentence to be served is 7 years of imprisonment;

Kh. — to 5 years of imprisonment; on the basis of Article 71 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, the final sentence to be served is 7 years of imprisonment;

M. — to 5 years of imprisonment; on the basis of Article 71 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, the final sentence to be served is 5 years and 6 months of imprisonment.
