In the Berezhany educational colony, they will wear branded clothing from Holland
Nearly 200 wards of the Berezhany educational colony received clothing, footwear, and hygiene products on 21 October. Neither politicians nor public organisations joined in the charity work.
Charitable assistance was provided to them by Ternopil schools and the Red Cross Society as part of the “Island of the Soul” campaign. Such an action has been conducted in Ternopil by the service for children’s affairs for more than ten years.
- Every year, the same Ternopil schools and the Red Cross Society join in this charitable cause, - says Kateryna Romanova, a chief specialist of the municipal service for children’s affairs. - Public organisations also provide assistance. However, this year they did not show any initiative. Two years ago, even some political organisations refused to help. They said that such an action held no interest for them. Since that incident, we have not approached them again.
Thus, schoolchildren, their parents, and teachers joined in the charitable effort. They collected paints, notebooks, and pens for the colony’s wards. And the Red Cross Society provided the boys with second-hand branded clothing and footwear from Holland.
- The majority of the wards of the Berezhany educational colony are from disadvantaged families. They ended up there due to various life problems, - says Ms. Romanova. - They are in a place of detention, as if on a small island. The boys are cut off from society and their loved ones. We, in turn, strive to gift them a piece of our soul.
For the assistance provided, Ms. Romanova expresses her sincere gratitude to the following Ternopil schools: Nos. 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 22, 24, 28, 29, and School-Lyceum No. 13.
