A convict hanged himself in a colony in the Kharkiv region
On Sunday, 27 January, around 7:00, the body of a 37-year-old convict was found in Oleksiyivska Correctional Colony No. 25 (Kharkiv region). This is reported by the press service of the Kharkiv Region Prosecutor's Office.
“The man, who committed an act of suicide by hanging, was found by another convict in the storeroom,” the report says.
The specified event has been entered into the Unified Register of Pre-trial Investigations (ERDR) with the qualification of a criminal offence provided for by Part 1 of Art. 120 (incitement to suicide) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
Also, the Prosecutor's Office of the Dzerzhynskyi District of Kharkiv has entered information into the ERDR and initiated an investigation of criminal proceedings under Part 2 of Art. 367 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (official negligence that caused serious consequences).
The sanction of the article provides for imprisonment for a term of two to five years with the deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for a period of up to three years and with a fine of two hundred and fifty to seven hundred and fifty tax-free minimum incomes of citizens.
The deceased man was convicted under Part 3 of Art. 185 (theft), Part 4 of Art. 70 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine to 4 years and 6 months of imprisonment. He began serving his term in November 2011.
As reported by NBN, on 9 January, a convict hanged himself in one of the cells of the Kherson pre-trial detention centre. The penitentiary staff believe that there is no fault of the controllers and staff of the pre-trial detention centre, but that there was a failure of the pre-trial detention centre worker on duty that day.
Recall that last year, a 20-year-old convict committed suicide in the Kuryazhska Educational Colony in the Kharkiv region.
